Equipment

BASA currently owns five ships:

All ships are equipped with radios, oxygen and electric variometers. Transponders are installed in the DG-1000S, the Grob 103 and one Pegasus.

BASA normally keeps these ships at one of our three traditional flying sites:

Hollister Airport, which is close to the junction of Highways 25 and 156, about 50 miles south of San Jose.

Truckee Airport, off highway 267, about 5 miles from the junction with Interstate 80. The gliderport is located on the east side of the field, and is open summer only, normally from early May to late September.

Minden - Tahoe Airport, off highway 395, about 5 miles north of Minden, Nevada.

In the summer season, from May through September, we normally have one Pegasus and one of the two-place gliders (either the Grob 103 or the DG-1000S) in Truckee. The other Pegasus and the other two-place glider are normally kept in Hollister during this period. The Junior will usually spend part of the summer in Truckee and part in Hollister, depending on demand.

From October through April, we usually have one glider in Minden or Air Sailing (typically a Pegasus), with the rest of the fleet in Hollister. During the harshest winter weather (December and January) we may have all the gliders in Hollister.

At the end of April, BASA typically holds a wave camp at Minden, with the Grob 103 (or DG-1000), one Pegasus and possibly other gliders depending on participation in the wave camp. At the end of the wave camp, the DG-1000 and Pegasus are moved to Truckee.

With the permission of the club’s Executive Committee, ships may also be taken to special events including cross-country camps, soaring safaris, and contests such as Pasco League.

BASA has two maintenance trailers, one stationed at Hollister year round, and one which moves seasonally between Truckee and Minden. They hold parachutes, one for each aircraft seat, barographs for cross country and altitude flight recording, spare tires, etc. We also have a trailer for each glider. Finally, we also have a rather nice camping trailer, which is available to the members in Truckee during the summer months.
